Alifa teaches at the Department of Zoology, University of Dhaka, where she founded and leads the Bengal Elasmo Lab Collaboration, combining education and marine research. She completed her doctoral studies at Nature-based Solutions Initiative, University of Oxford. Alifa’s research advocates for a locally-driven, bottom-up approach, translating academic knowledge into practical conservation actions—an often-overlooked perspective in current management systems. Alifa’s platform for research-based conservation action involves collaboration with local fishers and traders, addressing the lack of knowledge on sharks and rays in Bangladesh while working to mitigate the impact on these species.
