Albert specialises in climate change adaptation, disaster studies, sustainable livelihoods, and related themes. He has over 20 years of research, policy engagement, and capacity-building experience in Southeast Asia. He is a Senior Research Fellow at the SEI Asia Centre, where he leads the Climate Change, Disasters, and Development Cluster and manages many research programs and initiatives to enhance regional climate and disaster resilience and sustainable development.

He advises Samdhana Institute on its fair, green, and global alliance program and is a member of the Warsaw International Mechanism on Loss and Damage Expert Group on Slow Onset Events. 

He also co-edited Climate Change, Disasters, and Internal Displacement in Asia and the Pacific: A Human Rights-based Approach (2020) and The Routledge Handbook of Global Development (2022) and contributed to the Report for the Mid-Term Review of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2023).
