Michaela Hynie

Bio: Professor, Department of Psychology; Executive Member, Centre for Refugee Studies, York University.

Michaela conducts collaborative interdisciplinary research with communities, community-serving agencies and activist groups developing and evaluating social, institutional and policy interventions addressing structural and social exclusion for communities experiencing social conflict and/or forced displacement. Recent projects have focused on maternal mental health in Rwanda; access to health care for refugees and asylum seekers in Canada and in South Africa; and the relationship between state refugee policies and health and well-being in Canada, Germany and South Africa. Michaela is the past president of the Canadian Association for Refugee and Forced Migration Studies. She has a PhD in Social Psychology from McGill University.
